THE TIME HAS COME…

25 December 2020

Brexit; as of the 1st of Januari 2021

After a long period of negotiations, on December 24, 2020, the United Kingdom and the European Union reached an agreement on the new arrangements regarding to doing business, after Brexit. From January the 1st 2021, this agreement will take effect and free movement of goods to or from the United Kingdom is no longer possible.

With the United Kingdom leaving the European Customs Union, the necessary customs documents and formalities will go into effect. KLG Europe is well prepared for Brexit and we have a strong team of customs specialists. At our Venlo branch we have our own (in-house) customs department (AEO certified). We also have a team of customs specialist at our branch in the United Kingdom (Bradford). Together we ensure that the goods flow of our customers is provided to perfection, with the speed that customers expect from us and with the necessary permits. In this way we can handle the import and export in the UK and the Netherlands under our own supervision.

To ensure that the continuity of the flow of goods remains as good as possible, it is very important that the preparation is done properly. KLG, in addition to setting up the customs process and customs team, informed its customers in a timely manner. In this way, the customer was also able to prepare and before sending the first shipment after Brexit, everything is provided to perfection and no unexpected challenges await for both parties.

Rob Flos – Senior Account Executive: “Our customers, as well ourselves, are well prepared. Now the hope is that congestion will be minimal and possible delays in the process will be minimal. Many receiving parties in the UK are now booking large volumes in preparation for all that is to come. This also to get ahead of the expected delays. As a result, capacity problems are expected at both the ferries and the various ferry services to the United Kingdom.

In any case, we will do our utmost to continue to provide reliable shipments for our customers. With thorough preparation and coordination for services and an overall unburdening by KLG, together we stand strong for a minimized impact on transportation!”
