Customs Import (DMS)
Importing goods calls for more than transport alone. Every import shipment involves customs and the associated customs formalities (import clearance, export, re-export), import duties, import VAT, and regulatory compliance. Correct customs handling prevents delays, unnecessary costs, and problems at the border.
KLG Europe supports companies throughout the entire import process. From the customs declaration and tariff classification to the handling of import duties and complex customs procedures: our customs specialists ensure your goods are cleared quickly, correctly, and in full compliance with applicable regulations. This keeps your supply chain reliable and efficient.
Customs support for businesses
Doing business internationally means dealing with constantly changing laws and regulations. That's why KLG Europe supports both importers and exporters with all customs formalities. Whether you import goods occasionally or process international shipments on a daily basis, we ensure efficient, accurate, and worry-free handling of your customs affairs.
Import duties and customs tariffs
Correct classification of goods is essential for accurately calculating import duties. Key factors here include the HS code, the customs tariff, the customs value, the origin of the goods, and current customs exchange rates.
Our specialists can advise you on classifying your goods in line with current European customs legislation and the official customs tariff (according to the customs usage tariff, DTV). This helps you avoid retroactive assessments and delays, and ensures you never pay more import duty than necessary.
Customs documents, export documents (DMS), and transit (NCTS-DVA)
International trade often requires various customs documents. Depending on the shipment, we arrange:
Import customs declarations
Transit documents
Certificates of origin
Export documents
Verification of commercial invoices and packing lists
Other customs documentation
We carefully check all documents before your goods cross the border, ensuring your shipment meets every legal requirement.
Advice on customs procedures
Depending on your logistics processes, various customs procedures can offer financial and administrative advantages, such as:
Inward processing
Outward processing
Temporary admission
Re-export
Our customs specialists advise on which procedure best fits your business activities, helping you optimize your logistics processes and save on import duties and administrative burden.
Importing into the Netherlands and from outside the European Union
Importing goods from countries outside the European Union involves additional regulations, checks, and documentation requirements. Specific customs procedures (including excise declarations and T1/T2 transit) may also apply within the EU.
We advise you in advance on the applicable import rules (Dutch customs regulations), required documents, import duties, and other obligations — so you know exactly where you stand and avoid unexpected costs or delays.
Import duties and import VAT
A common question is: when do you pay import duties? When importing goods, import duties, import VAT, and other customs costs may be due. The amount depends on factors such as:
the origin of the goods
correct classification of the goods
the customs value
any applicable preferential trade agreements
We calculate expected costs in advance and, if desired, take care of the full financial handling of your import declarations. We also check in advance whether your VAT number or the VAT reverse-charge scheme (Article 23 of the Dutch VAT Act) applies.
EORI number
Companies importing or exporting goods within the European Union need a valid EORI number. This unique registration number is mandatory for nearly all customs procedures.
KLG Europe supports you with:
Applying for an EORI number
Verifying an existing EORI number
Checking international EORI registrations
Advice on using your EORI number within international trade flows
This ensures your registration is correct before your goods cross the border.
