KLG Europe accelerates sustainable logistics with concrete actions

22 april 2026

On Earth Day 2026, under the theme “Our power, our planet,” we highlight our commitment to sustainable logistics. With a fleet that collectively travels a distance equivalent to circling the globe approximately 950 times each year, the impact is significant – and so is the responsibility. KLG Europe is therefore implementing a range of concrete measures to reduce CO₂ emissions and further improve the sustainability of its operations.

Extending tyre lifespan through retreading and maintenance

One of the practical steps KLG Europe is taking is extending the lifespan of truck tyres. By retreading tyres and carrying out regular maintenance, the company not only significantly increases their lifespan but also reduces waste. This contributes to a more circular approach within logistics, making more efficient use of resources.

Conscious driving reduces fuel consumption and emissions

KLG Europe also invests in driver training focused on conscious driving behaviour. By driving more efficiently and anticipating road conditions, fuel consumption is reduced, which directly lowers CO₂ emissions. At the same time, this approach enhances road safety and reduces operational costs.

Solar panels on trucks for more efficient energy use

Innovation plays a key role in KLG Europe’s sustainability strategy. Several trucks are equipped with solar panels that support the energy needs of onboard equipment. As a result, engines need to idle less frequently, saving fuel and reducing emissions.

Continuous fleet renewal

KLG Europe continuously invests in modernising its fleet. By replacing trucks with vehicles that meet the latest Euro emission standards, harmful emissions are structurally reduced. This phased approach ensures long-term sustainability improvements across operations.

According to Fleet Manager Philip Nijs, collaboration and innovation are key to further progress:

“Through our current initiatives – such as solar panels and battery systems – we are taking important steps. With the introduction of an energy hub, we will be able to use energy even more efficiently and collaborate with other partners within transport and logistics.”

Recycling and social responsibility

Sustainability at KLG Europe goes beyond transport alone. Plastic bottles and cans are collected across multiple sites, and the deposit refunds are donated to charitable causes. In this way, the company combines environmentally conscious actions with social impact.

Recognition with Lean & Green Star 2

KLG Europe’s efforts are supported by external recognition. By achieving the Lean & Green Star 2 award, the company demonstrates measurable progress in reducing CO₂ emissions and advancing sustainable logistics.

GEORGE: from ambition to concrete implementation

The various sustainability initiatives are not standalone efforts but are brought together under the internal GEORGE programme. This programme consolidates all of KLG Europe’s sustainability goals and translates them into concrete plans and actions across the organisation.

Within GEORGE, sustainability is approached holistically: from employees and customers to suppliers, environment and innovation. The programme helps KLG Europe make its objectives – such as CO₂ reduction and responsible business practices – measurable and actionable, ensuring alignment between strategy and daily operations.

Through this structured approach, KLG Europe is able not only to define ambitions but also to effectively implement them in processes, collaboration and decision-making.

KLG Europe emphasises that sustainable change starts with small, concrete steps that together create a significant impact.
